Indian art is visual theology, illustrating the journey to the Divine with myth, symbol and the celebration of beauty. Alistair Shearer has taught courses on the sacred art of India for many institutions, including London University (SOAS), the British Museum and the auction houses Sotheby’s and Christies, and has written several books on the subject. In this lecture he will show how some works of Hindu art relate to the teachings of Yoga, and open up a deeper appreciation of the practice and its ultimate purpose.
